A massive fire ripped through the popular Farm Center GSM Market in Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State on Friday, destroying more than 300 shops and valuable properties, including a vast stock of mobile phones and accessories.
The blaze, which began around 2:00 PM at the (Dan Sileka) section of the market, triggered panic among traders and shoppers. Firefighters from the Kano State Fire Service arrived promptly and were able to contain the inferno before it spread to other parts of the market.
Tarauni Local Government Information Officer, Adamu Iliyasu Hotoro, confirmed that the Executive Chairman of the LGA, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim Muhammad Sekure, visited the scene shortly after the incident began. He assessed the damage and offered words of comfort and solidarity to the affected traders.
Hon. Sekure appealed to government agencies, relief organizations, and residents of Kano to extend support to victims, while stressing the importance of preventive measures against future market disasters. He also prayed for those impacted by the tragedy, asking Almighty Allah to restore their losses.
Ambassador Jamilu Bala Gama, Chairman of the Farm Center GSM Traders Association, and Alhaji Abdula’ziz Usman Mai Tabarma, Managing Director of the market, both commended Hon. Sekure for his swift response and lauded the bravery of the fire service personnel.
They noted that investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire and called for divine protection over the market going forward.
