The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State has introduced Quick Response (QR) codes to help eligible voters locate designated Permanent Voter Card (PVC) collection centres ahead of the 2027 general elections, Channels Television reports.
The QR codes will be made available through the Commission’s official website and social media platforms for voters to scan and access information about their designated collection centres.
Speaking at a press conference at INEC’s headquarters in Lagos on Tuesday, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Professor Ayobami Salami, urged eligible voters to collect their PVCs, verify their registration details and rely on official sources for election-related information.
Salami said preparations for the 2027 general elections were progressing in Lagos, with the Commission working to procure and test voter accreditation devices, improve election-result transmission systems, strengthen logistics and recruit and train election personnel.
INEC has also reviewed its timetable and schedule of activities for the elections following the repeal of the Electoral Act, 2022, and the enactment of the Electoral Act, 2026.
The Commission explained that the changes to the electoral law introduced adjustments to statutory timelines governing pre-election activities and other electoral processes, necessitating a review of the election schedule to ensure compliance with the new legal framework.
Under the revised timetable, the Presidential and National Assembly elections will hold on Saturday, January 16, 2027, while the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections are scheduled for Saturday, February 6, 2027.
The Commission urged voters to take advantage of the QR code initiative and other available services to confirm their registration details and prepare adequately for the forthcoming elections.
