Governor Hope Uzodimma has approved a new minimum wage of N104,000 for civil servants in Imo State, raising it from N76,000.

Announcing the decision after a meeting with labour leaders in Owerri, the governor also reviewed salaries of other categories of workers.

Doctors’ pay was raised from N215,000 to N503,000, while lecturers in tertiary institutions will now earn a minimum of N222,000, up from N119,000.

Uzodimma said the adjustment was part of efforts to cushion the impact of economic hardship, adding that improved welfare would boost productivity and stimulate the local economy.

He noted that the state’s Internally Generated Revenue has risen from N400 million to over N3 billion monthly, while its debt profile has dropped from N280 billion in 2020 to below N100 billion.

The governor also announced that payment of the last tranche of N16 billion in gratuities owed pensioners would begin on August 27.

He highlighted reforms in the health sector and ongoing infrastructure projects as part of his administration’s achievements.

Leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Imo praised the wage increase, describing it as a major relief for workers and proof of the governor’s commitment to their welfare.
