Presidential hopeful Peter Obi has clarified that he remains a committed member of the Labour Party (LP), despite his involvement in the opposition coalition led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) aimed at unseating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
Speaking during an appearance on the Sunday Politics program, Obi stressed that his participation in the coalition does not amount to anti-party activity.
“The coalition has adopted a party for 2027. We are working together in the interest of Nigeria,” he said. “I’m still in the Labour Party, and I remain there.
“But we’ve agreed to collaborate under the ADC platform for 2027, and more parties and individuals will likely join.”
Obi emphasized the coalition’s goal of delivering competent, character-driven governance and said the alliance may evolve.
“There’s no anti-party activity here,” he added. “It’s 2025. We are planning for 2027. Saying I’ll attend your dinner doesn’t mean I’ll skip breakfast or lunch.”
