The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has ordered the withdrawal and redeployment of police personnel attached to VIPs as part of renewed efforts to strengthen internal security and enhance nationwide policing.
During a high-level strategic conference held on Thursday, at the Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja, the IGP commended senior police officers for their dedication and resilience in safeguarding lives and property across the country.
According to a statement by the Force Spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, IGP Egbetokun issued fresh operational directives to all Commissioners of Police and tactical commanders, directing them to reinforce intelligence gathering, deepen community policing through sustained public engagement, protect vulnerable communities professionally, and scale up visible policing ahead of the yuletide season.
Addressing the ongoing implementation of the Presidential Directive on VIP security withdrawal, Egbetokun revealed that 11,566 officers have so far been withdrawn from VIP protection duties.
He noted that these personnel will be immediately redeployed to frontline operations to boost manpower and enhance general public safety.
Reaffirming the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to national security, the IGP stressed that all necessary measures will be intensified to ensure a safe and peaceful environment for every citizen, resident, and visitor.
