The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has approved the creation of two new Area Commands and the upgrade of five Police Stations to Divisional status in Benue State, as part of efforts to strengthen internal security across the country.

In a statement on Friday, the Force spokesperson, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the restructuring followed a thorough review of security realities in the state, especially in troubled Local Government Areas, and is designed to bridge operational gaps, boost police visibility, and enhance policing of difficult terrains.

According to the statement, the new Area Commands include the Daudu Area Command, which covers the Guma, Daudu, Yelwata, and Agan Police Divisions, and the Naka Area Command, which oversees the Naka, Apa, Agatu, and Okpokolo Police Divisions.

“Similarly, Ayilamo, Yelwata, Jato-Aka, Okpokolo, and Agan Police Stations have now been upgraded to full-fledged Divisions,” the statement added.

The IGP charged the Benue State Commissioner of Police and officers deployed to the new Commands and Divisions to demonstrate professionalism and renewed commitment in safeguarding lives and property.

He also urged the state government and residents to continue supporting the Police, stressing that collaboration is key to sustaining peace and improving security outcomes.

IGP Egbetokun further directed Commissioners of Police in other states with similar security challenges to adopt practical, community-driven policing strategies, assuring them of the necessary support and resources from Force Headquarters.
