Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu has commended the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of M-Tech Universal Concept Limited, Engr. Manir Jega for disbursing N45m scholarship to 450 indigent students of Kebbi State.
He made the commendation while flagging off the disbursement exercise held at Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic, Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday.
The governor, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Sen. Umar Abubakar-Tafida, said the efforts were not only worthy of commendation but also worthy of emulation by all.
According to him, what Manir is doing is complementing the efforts of the present government towards ensuring that “our youth acquire standard education for the benefit of the society.”
He, however, lamented that some students were not fair to their parents, some of them receive two to three scholarships at a time but they would not inform their parents to reduce the burden on their parents.
The governor observed that there were different forms of scholarships ranging from federal, state, local government, corporate, and individual scholarships.
“I, therefore, urge students to pursue not only education but they should pursue education with good character.
“If education is merged with character, you will be useful to yourself and to the society,” he advised.
Gov. Idris urged other people in the state to emulate the good gesture exhibited by the MD/CEO of M-Tech Universal Concept to be able to broaden the opportunities for others particularly the less privileged.
The Governor’s Wife, Zainab Nasare Nasir Idris urged the benefiting students to justify the confidence reposed in them by using the resources judiciously.
In their separate submission, Prof. Bello Bada, and Prof. Aliyu Bunza both from Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto (UDUS), and Prof. Bagudu Dan-Shehu, Vice Chancellor, Kebbi State University of Science and Technology, Aliero observed that there were many wealthy individuals across the state but didn’t care to offer such services.
They explained that if the wealthy refuse to take care of the less-privileged children in the society, there shall be no peaceful society, saying that the same children would turn out against the society.
The dons noted that Northern Nigeria was devastated because of the non-concern of the rich people of the area, adding that everywhere “you see an Almajiri, if you ask, he is from the North why?”
On his part, the Kebbi State Commissioner for Higher Education, Hon Isa Abubakar-Tunga said the MD/CEO M-Tech’s initiative aligned with the mission and vision of the Governor in developing and building the capacity of people to become useful to themselves and the society.
The commissioner lauded the efforts of Manir Jega for emulating the kind gesture of Kauran Gwandu towards the educational development of the state.
One of the prominent Islamic Scholars in Kebbi, Sheik AbdurRahman Isa Jega while praying to Almighty God to reward Manir Jega with the best of rewards, said: “Whatever that is being done for the sake of Allah will be sustained, while whatever that is being done not for His sake will not be sustained.”
The event featured a formal launch of the presentation of the N100,000 award to each of the beneficiaries by the distinguished personalities.
