Musa Na Allah Sokoto
Today, Students and members of the Staff of Umaru Ali Shinkafi Polytechnic have relief from the perennial water shortage experienced in the Institution.
The Rector of the institution, Aliyu Balarabe, on Monday, commissioned multiple 5000-capacity water schemes and rehabilitated over 40 hitherto malfunctioning boreholes across the two campuses.
The projects were part of the rector’s dividends of good leadership achieved within the first one hundred (100) days of his tenure of office.
Balarabe is the first Rector to be appointed within the cycle of the institutions since its establishment by the Sokoto state government.
His appointment came when infrastructures like water and electricity were yearning for rehabilitation.
Shortly after taking over the affairs of the institution, he started flagging off many projects that have a direct bearing on the lives of students, staff, and neighboring communities.
“What I am doing is in tandem with the transformation agenda of Governor Ahmed Aliyu.
Speaking to newsmen, the Rector said: “When I came on board, I met empty treasury with nothing to start anything but we engaged in signing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with many service providers to put things in proper shape.
“We have since commenced rehabilitation of lecture halls, classrooms, and provisions of tables and chairs for staff and students.
“As speaking, we have already installed solar-powered panels on the Administrative block.
“We have constant electricity 24/7 in our Administrative block, we will continue until the whole institution is solarized for the benefit of our teeming students and neghbouring communities.
To buttress his claims, a female lecturer who refused to disclose her name while talking to journalists agreed with the Rector.
She said: “This is the first time to appoint someone as a rector within the cycle of the institution and we are very happy about,
“He is the son of the soil, he has been in the institution for a long time and knows the critical needs of the polytechnic, and he doesn’t need to be told anything.
“The school environment was in total darkness, staff and students were no longer comfortable to walk at night for fear of snakes and other reptiles.
“Let me be sincere to the former Rector, Professor Aminu, who is a good and easygoing person, but some lecturers and staff around him hijacked his positive ideas.
“He started well but just suddenly derailed, living the management of critical complement of the institution in the hands of few individuals.
