News Desk

The House of Representatives on Thursday approved President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of the state of emergency in Rivers State.

The approval for the president’s proclamation was through by voice vote by over 240 members present during the plenary.

Before the plenary, Speaker Tajudeen Abbass read the president’s letter.

When the matter was put to a voice vote, the lawmakers overwhelmingly endorsed President Tinubu’s decision.

Abbass confirmed that 240 lawmakers were present, ensuring a quorum.

It was gathered that the Senate will meet later today to consider the President’s request.

President Bola Tinubu had on Tuesday declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, suspending Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for six months due to the ongoing political crisis in the state.

Two days later, Tinubu sought approval from the National Assembly for the emergency rule declaration.
