The Chairman of Gumel Local Government Council in Jigawa State, Hon. Lawan Ya’u, passed away on Saturday evening, 5 July 2025, at the age of 61.
Hon. Ya’u died at a private hospital in Kano State after a brief illness.
According to a family source, he was rushed to the hospital on Friday following a suspected heart attack.
Unfortunately, he passed away late on Saturday evening while receiving treatment.
Before his election as local government chairman in August 2024, Hon. Lawan Ya’u was a prominent civil society activist in the state.
He is survived by two wives and many children.
His funeral prayer will be held tomorrow, Sunday, in the ancient city of Gumel.
