The Special Adviser to the Kano State Governor on Tsangaya Education, Sheikh Musa Falaki, has accused former Kano Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, of allegedly siphoning N308 million meant for special prayers across the 44 local government areas of the state.

Falaki made the allegation in a video interview circulated by Hikima Radio.

According to him, the former leadership of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Kano claimed that the 44 local government councils contributed N44 million every month for seven months to sponsor special prayers.

He said the arrangement was that he and Sheikh Ibrahim Sheshi Maihula would coordinate the prayers, but they were unaware that money was allegedly being collected in their names.

Falaki alleged that neither he nor Sheikh Ibrahim Sheshi Maihula received any part of the funds or conducted the prayers.

He said they only discovered that money had allegedly been released in their names after they were invited by the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) to answer questions during an investigation.

According to Falaki, it was during the investigation that they learnt that N44 million had allegedly been released monthly for seven months, amounting to N308 million.

He alleged that since the clerics neither received the money nor organised the prayers, Gwarzo had allegedly siphoned the entire amount meant for the exercise.

Falaki further alleged that the issue formed part of the PCACC investigation, during which Gwarzo was reportedly asked to refund more than N700 million allegedly diverted from the treasuries of Kano State’s 44 local government councils.

Gwarzo has not publicly responded to the allegations contained in the video at the time of filing this report
