Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reaffirmed his commitment to empowering women across the state.

He disclosed during an Iftar (breaking of fast) event with various women’s groups at the Government House on Thursday.

A statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Mustapha Muhammad, quoted Governor Yusuf saying: “We have disbursed N50,000 each to thousands of women in the state to support their economic empowerment.”

According to the statement, the Governor explained that the funds serve as startup capital for a significant number of women engaged in petty trading.

The initiative has boosted financial circulation within the state, with over 5,000 women benefiting monthly, thereby enhancing women’s economic inclusion and strengthening small-scale trade.

“Now, everything is free for nursing mothers, we will continue to do more.”

Governor Yusuf also highlighted his administration’s support for various women’s groups through mobility assistance, encouraging them to play a greater role in governance.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Children, and Persons with Disabilities, Amina Abdullahi (HOD), commended the Governor for his administration’s efforts in empowering women.

She emphasized that the government of Abba Kabir Yusuf has prioritized women’s empowerment more than previous administrations in the state.

Also speaking at the event, the Wife of the Commissioner of Police and Chairperson of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Kano Branch, Hadiza Abubakar Bakori, pledged their support for the government while calling for further initiatives to assist women in the state.
