Governor Yusuf Orders Establishment Of Water Treatment Plant As Aquifer Discovered in Rano

In a breakthrough that could transform water access in Rano Emirate and surrounding communities, a significant underground water source, an aquifer, has been discovered in the Taliwaiwai area, a rocky mountainous zone known for its long-standing mining activities.

A statement by the Governor’s Spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, said the discovery was made public during Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf’s official visit to Rano.

The Governor, who was on an assessment tour, was received by top government officials and traditional leaders who welcomed the development as timely and impactful.

During a briefing, the Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Umar Haruna Doguwa, told the Governor that the aquifer was discovered following the Governor’s directive to seek a sustainable solution to the persistent water scarcity that has plagued the Rano area for years.

According to him, geological and hydrological experts conducted thorough assessments and confirmed the viability of the underground water source.

“This is not just a temporary fix,” the Commissioner said. “We now have a long-term solution that can provide clean and safe water to thousands of residents in this zone.”

Moved by the findings, Governor Yusuf immediately directed the Ministry of Water Resources to begin the process of establishing a fully functional water treatment plant at the site.

The plant will be designed to treat and distribute potable water to Rano and neighboring communities, ensuring reliable access to clean water for domestic and agricultural use.

Governor Yusuf described the discovery as a milestone achievement for his administration and reiterated his commitment to improving social infrastructure across the state.

“This is a testament to our resolve to address the basic needs of our people,” he said. “Water is life, and we will not rest until every household in Kano has access to clean, safe, and sufficient water supply.”

He also assured the people of Rano that the state government will fast-track the design, funding, and implementation of the water project, while also ensuring community involvement and environmental protection.

It could be recalled that the Emir of Rano, Amb. Dr. Muhammad Isa Umar, during the recent Sallah homage, sought the Governor’s support in addressing the recurrent water scarcity in Rano community.

Recently, at the opening of the 27th State Executive Council, Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, vowed to do all it takes to address the challenges bedeviling the water sector in Kano State through the implementation of a strategic action plan and effective stakeholder engagement.
