Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening government communication for better service delivery, as he officially closed the four-day capacity-building workshop for Senior Special Reporters (SSRs) and Special Reporters (SRs).

Speaking on behalf of the Governor at the closing ceremony held at Dangote Business School, Bayero University, New Campus, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Umar Farouk Ibrahim, conveyed the Governor’s deep satisfaction and pride in the successful completion of the training, which brought together 132 participants, 71 Senior Special Reporters and 61 Special Reporters, from Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) across the state.

Over the course of four intensive days, the participants were taken through a series of sessions focused on the theme: “Updating Basic Mass Communication Skills for Enhanced Government Communication.”

The workshop aimed to sharpen the media and communication skills of frontline government spokespersons and reporting officers, enhancing the state’s ability to disseminate accurate and timely information to the public.

Governor Yusuf commended the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs for its foresight and leadership in organizing the program.

He emphasized the importance of effective communication in governance, noting that “a well-informed public contributes to a more progressive and inclusive society.”

He urged participants to put the knowledge and insights gained into practice and extended appreciation to the facilitators and resource persons for creating a productive learning environment.

“Your contributions have helped shape the future of public communication in our dear state,” he remarked.

Governor Yusuf concluded by assuring that his administration remains committed to supporting similar initiatives aimed at building the capacity of civil servants and improving governance outcomes.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs, Kano State, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, stated that the training given to the Senior Special Reporters (SSRs) and Special Reporters (SRs) would help improve their performance, as it was conducted by professional university lecturers.

The Commissioner noted that it is expected there will be a positive change in the way information is disseminated regarding the activities of the ministries and agencies where the participants work, given their new training in journalism and news reporting.

He added that the certificates issued to them are from the renowned International Institute of Journalism, which they can use to advance their future endeavors.

Comrade Waiya thanked Governor Yusuf for the continued support he has extended to the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs, particularly in providing training opportunities for staff to enhance their professional performance.
