Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has formally presented employment letters to 1,038 newly recruited agricultural extension agents and support staff for the Kano State Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (KNARDA).
The presentation took place on Monday during a flag-off ceremony held at the Coronation Hall of the Government House, Kano.
Speaking at the event, Governor Yusuf said the recruits are expected to play a vital role in promoting sustainable farming practices and revitalizing the state’s agricultural sector.
The development was announced in a statement by the Governor’s Spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
Governor Yusuf charged the new employees to carry out their duties with dedication, integrity, and a strong sense of responsibility.
He cautioned them against absenteeism, misconduct, and corruption, stressing that their conduct as frontline agricultural ambassadors would significantly influence the success of his administration’s agricultural transformation agenda.
“We are building a new generation of field workers who will introduce modern practices, provide improved inputs, and deliver innovative solutions to our farms, cooperatives, and rural communities,” the governor said.
He described the new employees as “change agents” in agriculture and agribusiness, urging them to serve as a bridge between the government and farmers to help boost productivity and drive rural development.
Governor Yusuf further noted that although Kano currently leads the nation in the number of agricultural extension workers, the new recruitment was necessary to further strengthen KNARDA’s operations under the State Ministry of Agriculture.
He commended the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, KNARDA, the Civil Service Commission, and other stakeholders for their efforts in achieving this milestone.
Also speaking at the event, the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Danjuma Mahmoud, said the mass employment initiative aims to enhance food security and improve the livelihoods of citizens across the state.
In her remarks, the Chairperson of the Kano Civil Service Commission, Ladidi Ibrahim Garko, described the exercise as a significant step toward reinforcing the state’s agricultural workforce.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Saminu Sani Garba expressed deep appreciation to Governor Yusuf for the opportunity, pledging their collective commitment to advancing agricultural productivity across Kano State.
