Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano state has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to addressing the shortage of health workers in Kano State by investing more resources in the training of professional nurses and midwives.
In a statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, Governor Yusuf made the commitment during a weekend visit to the College of Nursing and Midwifery, Madobi.
The Governor emphasized the vital role of health workers in ensuring a healthy population, despite the growing shortage of personnel.
He pledged to strengthen the state’s capacity to produce more skilled professionals in the sector.
During the inspection of infrastructure and facilities at the college, Governor Yusuf directed the immediate establishment of a school clinic, staff quarters, and additional hostel accommodations to enhance teaching and learning conditions.
He also revealed that a newly constructed mega building—designed to house additional classrooms, practical laboratories, and offices—would soon be ready for commissioning at the institution.
“We are committed to enhancing nursing and midwifery education in Kano State by ensuring the quality training of skilled personnel who serve as frontline health workers,” Governor Yusuf stated.
“This, we believe, will go a long way in reducing the burden of critical health emergencies, particularly the high rates of child and maternal mortality in the state.
We have approved the execution of key infrastructural projects that will further improve the quality of training at the college,” he added.
