Governor Uba Sani has signed the Kaduna State 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, earmarking education as the highest priority with 25 per cent of the N985.9 billion budget.
Speaking on Monday after assenting to the bill at the Government House in Kaduna, Sani said the budget underscores his administration’s commitment to consolidating achievements while laying a stronger foundation for sustainable growth.
He disclosed that N698.9 billion, representing 70.9 per cent of the total budget, has been allocated to capital expenditure to drive infrastructure development, economic growth, and improved service delivery.
Recurrent expenditure, he said, stands at N287 billion, or 29.1 per cent, to ensure the efficient and responsible functioning of essential government services.
The governor explained that education received 25 per cent of the budget, describing knowledge as the most powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty and securing children’s future.
Infrastructure and rural transformation also account for 25 per cent, reflecting the government’s resolve to open up communities, link markets, and stimulate economic activities across the state.
The health sector was allocated 15 per cent of the budget, reaffirming the administration’s belief that a healthy population is vital to productivity and human dignity.
Agriculture and food security received 11.65 per cent, aimed at boosting food production, empowering farmers, and strengthening the local economy.
He added that deliberate provisions were made for climate change initiatives, nutrition, and environmental sustainability in recognition of current realities and the state’s responsibility to future generations.
The budget, tagged “Budget of Consolidation, Transformation and Inclusive Development,” is designed to address long-standing exclusion and promote inclusive growth.
Governor Sani said N100 million has been allocated to each ward in the state to support community-driven development projects, empowering residents to identify their priorities at the grassroots.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fiscal discipline, noting that the 2026 budget introduces no new loans and that N114.9 billion has already been spent on debt servicing.
According to him, this approach is aimed at safeguarding the future of Kaduna State while meeting present needs.
Describing the budget as more than figures and projections, Sani said it represents progress, opportunity, and an improved quality of life for the people of Kaduna State.
He, however, stressed that its success will depend on effective implementation and sustained collaboration with the State House of Assembly.
The Governor assured of a cordial working relationship with the legislature, saying continued cooperation would help sustain peace and stability as the foundation for development.
He expressed confidence that joint efforts would consolidate transformation, deepen inclusion, and build a Kaduna State that works for all.
