Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has approved the appointment of Abdulkadir Ibrahim Bello as the 16th Emir of Gusau, following the passing of his father, Alhaji Ibrahim Bello, who served as emir for a decade until his death on July 25.
The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Nakwada.
According to the statement, the selection was based on the recommendation of the Gusau Emirate kingmakers in line with traditional customs and relevant legal provisions.
Abdulkadir Bello, the eldest son of the late emir, previously held the traditional title of Bunun Gusau and hails from a distinguished royal lineage as a descendant of Sambo Dan Ashafa.
Governor Lawal congratulated the new emir and urged him to sustain the legacy of his late father by promoting peace, unity, and development within the emirate and across Zamfara State.
He called on the new monarch to serve as a unifying figure and lead with dignity and wisdom, fostering harmony and progress in the region.
