Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris has flagged off 87 kilometres Dabai-Koko road at the cost of N64 billion.
The road, a federal government’s own, had been taken over by the Kebbi State Government due to constant construction delays by the previous contractor.
The road project had been re-awarded to three contractors, GNIC, 37 kilometers, ZBCC, 25 kilometers, and Habib Engineering Company, 25 kilometers for speedy completion of the project.
The flag-off, which was done at the ZBCC Yard at Dabai town was performed by the Kebbi State Governor accompanied by His Royal Highness, Emir of Zuru, Maj.-Gen. Muhammad Sani Sami and other government officials.
In his remarks, the Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris said that the construction of Dabai-Koko road was part of his campaign promises to the people of Zuru Emirate.
“I knew is a Federal Government road but it has been abandoned and long overdue for rehabilitation and reconstruction. So, I decided to work for the revocation of the contract to allow me to construct the road because of its economic importance,” he said.
The Governor assured that his administration would continue to be a government for the masses by ensuring that it carries all manner of people along.
He also awarded some road projects across, linking the four Local Government Areas in Zuru Emirate.
Comrade Idris promised to continue to put a smile on the faces of the people of Zuru.
Also speaking, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Yakubu Bala-Tafida thanked the governor for fulfilling his campaign promises, while advising the people of Zuru Emirate to support the present administration’s mission and vision.
In his speech, the Emir of Zuru, Maj.-Gen. Muhammad Sani Sami assured the governor of support to his administration.
“You have wiped away our tears, completion of this road will boost economic activities not only in this area but also across the state. We appreciate all that you have done for us in just two years of your administration,” he said.
In a welcome address, the Commissioner for Works, Hon. Umar Farouk Muslim thanked Governor Idris for facilitating the revocation of the road contracts and the subsequent award to three indigenous contractors.
According to him, this will go a long way in ensuring the speedy completion of the project.
Fielding questions from Journalists on behalf of other contractors, the Managing Director, ZBCC, Usman Hussaini thanked the Kebbi State Governor for considering indigenous contractors for the project.
