Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, also known as Kauran Gwandu, has donated N20 million to Kauran Gwandu Football Club in recognition of their back-to-back victories in the Birnin Kebbi Youths Soccer League for the 2023/24 and 2024/25 seasons.

The donation was announced on Sunday at the Government House, Birnin Kebbi, where the governor received the trophies from the club’s Team Manager, Abubakar Sadiq Bullet.

Governor Idris praised the club’s management and players for their impressive achievement, describing the team as a personal initiative that predates his entry into politics.

“I’m proud of this team. The club was founded before I became governor, and I have continued to sponsor it personally. It’s not a government-owned club,” he said.

He encouraged the team to remain focused and aspire to compete in higher-level competitions, noting that sports play a vital role in youth development, physical and mental well-being, and economic empowerment.

“I will continue to support the club both morally and materially. In every competition, there must be a winner and a loser, but even in defeat, ensure your opponents respect your professionalism and resilience,” he added.

Presenting the trophies, Team Manager Abubakar Sadiq Bullet informed the governor that the club had secured consecutive league titles and also qualified for the final of the Dutsinmari Cup Competition.

“Your Excellency, the players and stakeholders deeply appreciate your unwavering financial and material support, which has been instrumental in our success,” he said.

The team captain also presented the trophies to Governor Idris and honored him with a medal as a token of gratitude for his continued support.
