Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has warned middlemen against meddling with fertilizer meant for farmers in the state.
He said severe consequence awaits any middleman, person, or group of persons found wanting in the sales and diversion of the commodity meant for farmers in the open markets.
The Governor declared in Dange/Shuni local government at the instance of the flag off of the distribution and sales of N4.7b worth of fertilizer to Sokoto state farmers, for the 2024 cropping season.
While launching the sales of the commodity, Governor Aluyu said the objective of subsidizing the commodity is to enhance agricultural yields, improve the capacity of farmers, and ensure food security.
According to the Governor, the fertilizer was made available by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Fadama NG-CARE’s initiative, and the Sokoto State Government.
“Each of the 23 local government areas of the state will receive 10 trucks of fertilizer, out of which 3 trucks would be made available for dry season farmers,” he stressed.
“This is to enhance the agricultural output of Sokoto state rural and urban farmers devoid of political inclination and moreso create job opportunities for the elderly and our teeming youths.” the governor stated.
“Sokoto state government will continue to support and provide other incentives to farmers in the areas of Agricultural inputs, machinery, pesticides, and other agro-allied chemicals for the treatment of seeds as well as extension and other support services.
He urged the beneficiaries of the commodity to optimally utilize it to achieve the desired goals of President Tinubu on the renewed hope agenda on food self-sufficiency.
