Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has launched the Sauki Shops Initiative, allocating a massive ₦757,205,535 million for food and essential goods.

The newly established shops stand as a symbol of relief, ensuring that government workers can access staple foods at subsidized rates.

“Briefing newsmen shortly after the state executive council meeting on Thursday, the State Commissioner for Information, Sambo Danchadi, said the government recognized that many sectors have already benefited from subsidies.

“He said: ‘The governor turned his focus to civil servants, introducing a system where commodities such as rice, maize, spaghetti, and other necessities will be sold at prices 30% lower than the open market.’”

“To ensure fairness and accessibility, the government has introduced a scratch card payment system. Civil servants will load their cards, make purchases at the Sauki Shops, and have the amount deducted directly from their salary accounts.

“This initiative prevents hoarding and ensures that subsidies reach the intended beneficiaries.’”

In another development, the commissioner disclosed that the state government also embarks on multifaceted development initiatives.

Danchadi further explained that the state government has launched a series of development projects to improve the lives of its citizens.

In healthcare, he stated that the government has approved the purchase of nine ultrasound machines for key general hospitals across the state. These include Tambuwal General Hospital, Kebbe General Hospital, Illeila General Hospital, Gwadabawa General Hospital, Isa General Hospital, Tangaza General Hospital, and WCWC Hospital in the Metropolis.

He added that infrastructure is also receiving a boost, with the construction of a new bridge near the Shehu Shagari College of Education to improve traffic flow. Major roads, such as Airport Road, will undergo asphalt laying, street lighting, and beautification.

In a bid to strengthen religious institutions, the administration is renovating several Jumu’at mosques in the state to provide conducive atmosphere for worshipers
