To combat rising moral decadence, the Sokoto State Government has announced plans to establish Hisbah offices across all 23 local government areas of the state.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu announced during the commissioning of the newly reconstructed Buhari Dan Shehu Jumu’at Mosque, emphasizing that the initiative aims to curb immorality, social vices, and other un-Islamic behaviors.

“The Hisbah Board was established with the mission of promoting modesty and fostering a cleaner, safer, and more disciplined society,” Aliyu stated.

He noted that the revitalization of the Hisbah corps has already contributed significantly to reducing social vices in the state.

He reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to reinforcing Islamic values and supporting religious institutions.

“So far, we have reconstructed and remodeled 65 central Jumu’at mosques across the 23 LGAs,” the governor said. “Additionally, over 40 five-daily-prayer mosques have been rebuilt throughout the state.”

The Governor also revealed the introduction of a monthly cash allocation to 90 Jumu’at mosques within the Sokoto metropolis to aid in their maintenance and operations. The disbursement ranges between ₦300,000 and ₦500,000 per mosque.

Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Jabir Sani Mai Hula, urged mosque committees to use the funds judiciously, ensuring continuous cleanliness and proper upkeep.

He then highlighted that the mosque remodeling efforts have strengthened Islamic propagation within the state.

Other dignitaries at the commissioning included the representative of the Sultan of Sokoto, Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu; Chairman of Sokoto South Local Government, Ya’u Muhammad Danda; and Sheikh Abubakar Mabera.

The newly renovated mosque was formally commissioned by Sheikh Yahaya Jingir, who also delivered the Friday sermon and led the congregational two raka’at Jumu’at prayer.
