The health department of Ghana has declared that the first incidence of mpox this year has been confirmed. It is currently unknown what strain of the virus is in question.
Tests are being carried out, according to health experts, to see if the clade Ib strain has drawn attention from around the world as a result of its quick spread and scant investigation.
The young man undergoing treatment has a temperature, rash, and physical aches. 25 contacts have been located by health authorities, and they are currently being monitored.
In Ghana, cases of mpox have been identified in 2022 and 2023. Following the spread of an outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo to neighboring countries, the World Health Organization designated mpox a global health emergency in August.
Clade I, which is widespread in portions of West and Central Africa, and Clade Ib, which is more easily spread, particularly through intimate contact, including sexual interactions, are the two strains of mpox that are now in circulation.
