Rivers State Government has approved a new minimum wage of N85,000 for civil servants in the state.
This was announced by the Head of Service, George Nwaeke, following a closed-door meeting between Governor Siminalayi Fubara, labour leaders, and senior government officials
Nwaeke affirmed that the increased minimum wage would take effect immediately.
In response, Governor Fubara received commendation from the Chairman of the Joint Negotiation Team, Chukwu Emecheta, for meeting the expectations of Rivers State workers and for his commitment to their welfare.
Similarly, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Rivers State, Alex Agwanwor, expressed that the new minimum wage would immensely ease the economic challenges faced by workers in the state.
