Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Peter Rufai, popularly known as “Dodomayana,” has died.
According to Radio Nigeria, Rufai reportedly passed away on Thursday morning after battling a prolonged illness.
He was 61 years old.
A key figure in Nigerian football history, Rufai earned 65 caps for the national team and featured prominently in Nigeria’s victorious 1994 African Cup of Nations campaign.
He also represented the country at two FIFA World Cups, 1994 and 1998.
Tributes have begun pouring in from across the football community, mourning the loss of one of Nigeria’s most celebrated goalkeepers.
