Flood Claims 20 Lives in Niger

No fewer than twenty (20) lives have been lost to ravaging flooding in Tiffin Maza and Anguwan Hausawa communities of Mokwa local government area of Niger State.

Three (3) out of 33 persons who were washed away by the flood were rescued while ten (10) others were still missing.

The incident followed Wednesday night’s torrential rainfall that washed away about 50 compounds and cut off major roads in the communities.

Confirming the incident, Director General Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Abdullahi Baba Arah said the agency received report of a “deadly flood disaster that ravaged two communities of Tiffin maza and Anguwan Hausawa in Mokwa town of Mokwa LGA”.

Arah also confirmed the deaths, saying search and rescue operations were ongoing.
