MTN Nigeria will temporarily disrupt services in parts of Adamawa, Borno, and Kano states this weekend as it carries out a fiber infrastructure upgrade.

The maintenance is scheduled for Saturday, August 24, 2025, from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. and will affect 101 sites across 15 Local Government Areas (LGAs). Customers on 2G, 3G, 4G, and enterprise services are expected to experience downtime within the two-hour window.

The exercise is part of efforts to permanently restore the damaged AFCOT–Bawo Village fiber route in Adamawa by switching traffic to a newly installed span.

MTN said the upgrade is necessary to prevent recurrent disruptions and strengthen network stability in the Northeast.

LGAs to be affected include Nasarawa in Kano; Girei, Song, Mubi North, Hong, Gombi, Fufore, Mubi South, Madagali, Michika, Maiha, Chibok, and Yola North in Adamawa; as well as Askira/Uba and Shani in Borno.

The company explained that due to the route’s linear and unprotected nature, temporary downtime is unavoidable. The work will also be carried out during daylight hours for security reasons.

“MTN regrets any inconvenience this may cause and appreciates the understanding of its valued customers as it works to improve service quality and reliability,” the operator said.

The planned upgrade aligns with MTN’s continued investments to boost network resilience in Nigeria’s Northeast, a region often challenged by fragile infrastructure and security issues.
