The Federal Government has issued a two-week ultimatum to the contractor overseeing the road construction project from Sokoto and Zamfara to Kaduna states, demanding strict adherence to contract terms or the contract will be revoked.

Minister of Works, Engr. David Nweze Umahi, issued the warning during a working visit to Sokoto and Kebbi States. He emphasized that the federal government awarded the contract for a dual carriageway to replace the existing single-lane road, aiming to alleviate the challenges faced by travelers in the region.

However, Umahi pointed out that the contractor failed to maintain the existing pavements, which was part of the contractual agreement. He added that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had directed that the government would not compromise on the quality of work for any contract, ensuring sustainable development.

The Minister further assured that the Ministry of Works has established mechanisms to guarantee quality assurance and effective service delivery across all projects.

Abdullahi Yakasai, Senior Special Assistant to the President on community development for the Northwest, praised the Federal Government’s efforts through the Renewed Hope Agenda, which has brought significant infrastructural development to the Northwest.

He highlighted projects like the Illaila to Badagry dual carriage road, the Sokoto-Zamfara-Kaduna road, and other initiatives designed to boost socio-economic development in the region.

Yakasai urged the public and state governments in the Northwest to support President Tinubu’s vision to continue these positive changes.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State, represented by his deputy, Idris Muhammad Gobir, expressed gratitude to the federal government and reaffirmed the state’s commitment to supporting all federal projects that contribute to the region’s development.
