The Federal Government (FG) has declared Friday a public holiday in commemoration of the 2026 Workers’ Day celebration.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.
Tunji-Ojo commended Nigerian workers for their resilience, dedication, and invaluable contributions to national development, noting that their efforts remain central to the country’s growth and prosperity.
He urged the workforce to continue upholding the values of patriotism, diligence, and commitment, describing them as essential pillars for sustainable development.
The minister also reaffirmed the government’s resolve to improve workers’ welfare and create an enabling environment for economic advancement.
He called on Nigerians to use the occasion to reflect on the importance of unity and hard work in nation-building, while wishing workers across the country a peaceful and rewarding Workers’ Day celebration on 1 May 2026.
