Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has commissioned the 6.475-kilometre Amanyam–Mbiaso Road in Ikot Ekpene, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development and improving the living conditions of residents.
Channels Television reports that the road was commissioned on Thursday at Amanyam, Ikot Ekpene, as part of activities marking the state’s 39th anniversary.
Speaking at the event, Eno said his administration was focused on delivering projects that directly benefit residents rather than engaging in unnecessary political activities.
“Whatever developmental efforts that we are putting in place are tailored towards the overall benefit and improved living conditions of our people. We don’t play politics with the welfare of our citizenry,” the governor said.
Eno announced plans for additional projects in the area, including the Ikot Ekpene International Market, Compassionate Homes, primary healthcare centres and other road projects.
He commended the Chairman of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, Aniefiok Nkom, for implementing people-oriented projects, saying similar initiatives by local government chairmen across the state demonstrated the benefits of local government autonomy.
The Commissioner for Works, Eno Ibanga, said the road was a 6.475-kilometre single-carriageway with an eight-metre width and 12.95 kilometres of side drains.
According to him, the road serves as a development corridor linking Amanyam, Ifuho, Ibong, Ikot Udoe and Mbiaso communities.
He said the project was closely supervised to ensure that it met required standards and delivered quality and durability.
Nkom, in his remarks, commended Governor Eno for his development initiatives in Ikot Ekpene, particularly the ongoing International Market, hospital project and road infrastructure.
“You have done so much in and for Ikot Ekpene. Currently, you have four projects to commission in Ikot Ekpene. I want to tell you that we are very happy with you,” Nkom said.
