Egypt has strongly condemned Israel’s latest proposal to expand military operations in Gaza and relocate Palestinians, describing the plan as unacceptable and a violation of their rights.
Speaking at a joint press conference in Cairo with UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini on Saturday, Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty dismissed Israel’s suggestion of “voluntary migration” for Palestinians.
“This is nonsense.
The Palestinian people hold onto their land. They don’t want to leave their homeland—why should they leave?” he said.
His comments came after Israeli military spokesperson Avichay Adraee urged Palestinians in Gaza to move southward to what the army described as a “humanitarian zone” in Muwasi and parts of Khan Younis.
According to Adraee, civilians would be allowed to travel along a designated road from Gaza City to the south without being searched.
Israel’s military also announced plans to provide field hospitals, water pipelines, and food supplies in the area.
However, aid groups have raised concerns about severe overcrowding, inadequate sanitation, and shortages of food and clean water in Muwasi.
Months of sustained bombardment have left much of Khan Younis in ruins, worsening the humanitarian crisis in southern Gaza.
