Egypt on Monday began the first phase of its parliamentary elections, with nearly 63 million registered voters expected to choose 568 members of the House of Representatives in two stages.

More than 1,200 candidates are contesting seats in 14 provinces, including Cairo’s key regions of Alexandria, Giza, Luxor, and Aswan. The first phase runs through Monday, with results expected by November 18.

The second phase of voting will be held on November 24–25 across the remaining 13 provinces. The current parliament’s term expires in January 2026.

Analysts predict a comfortable victory for the pro-government coalition, mirroring the outcome of the recent Senate elections. Deep divisions and internal conflicts have left opposition parties too weak to mount a serious challenge.

Under Egypt’s 2019 constitution, President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s term was extended from four to six years, with his previous tenure counted as his first — allowing him to remain in office until 2030.
