Ebonyi Governor Suspends 87 Officials Over Absence from Official Function

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has ordered the immediate suspension of 87 government officials for failing to attend a key state function.

The directive was announced in a statement issued Monday night by the Governor’s spokesperson, Monday Uzor.

According to the statement, those affected are to observe a one-month suspension without pay.

The suspended officials include 25 commissioners, 14 senior special assistants, 24 special assistants, and 22 permanent secretaries.

The suspension takes effect immediately, and all affected officials have been barred from signing any official documents during the period.

Commissioners were further instructed to hand over to their respective permanent secretaries.

“The Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has directed that the underlisted government functionaries proceed on a one-month working suspension without salary for failure to attend an important government function,” the statement read.

Mr. Uzor added that Governor Nwifuru remains committed to maintaining discipline and high standards of accountability in public service, emphasizing that every official must demonstrate seriousness and dedication in serving the people of Ebonyi State.
