The Ebonyi State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Donatus Illang, has clarified that the government’s decision to shut down unapproved and unregistered schools across the state’s 13 local government areas is not targeted at any individual and is not a witch-hunt.
While briefing journalists on the state’s new education policies, Dr. Illang emphasized that there would be no exceptions in enforcing the rules, and officials carrying out the closures have been instructed to act without fear or favour.
“The government cannot allow a few individuals to jeopardize our educational policies and programs,” he said, adding that pupils cannot continue learning in non-conducive environments.
Dr. Illang urged parents to enroll their children only in approved and registered schools, warning that any school shut down will remain closed until it meets all required standards.
