The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced that the second phase of its ongoing recruitment exercise will take place between September 14 and 21.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Service’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Maiwada, said the exercise would be conducted through an online Computer-Based Test (CBT) to ensure transparency, accessibility, and fairness.
According to him, the NCS received 573,523 applications for 3,927 advertised vacancies across the Superintendent, Inspectorate, and Customs Assistant cadres on December 27, 2024. After a rigorous screening of documents, 286,697 applicants were shortlisted for the next stage.
Maiwada explained that candidates would be able to write the test from any location with stable internet access, provided they use a laptop or desktop computer with a webcam and full-screen display, as the system does not support mobile devices.
“A facial verification process will be conducted during login; therefore, candidates are advised to maintain a neat appearance to avoid recognition issues,” he said.
He added that the system is highly sensitive to distractions and movements, warning that background noise, whispering, or switching between windows during the test could trigger automatic logout or disqualification for malpractice.
To prepare applicants, the Service has scheduled a mandatory pre-test two days before the main CBT. Separate links for the pre-test and the actual examination will be sent to all shortlisted candidates.
Maiwada also disclosed that only candidates applying for the Superintendent Cadre would undergo an additional CBT in the next phase of the recruitment.
Reassuring applicants of the Service’s commitment to merit-based selection, he cautioned against patronising fraudulent agents or relying on unverified information.
“The NCS will not request any form of payment or conduct recruitment through social media. All updates will be communicated through the Service’s official platforms,” he stressed.
He noted that the recruitment drive is part of efforts to strengthen manpower and enhance efficiency in line with the Service’s statutory mandate.
