Covenant University (CU) has been named Nigeria’s leading institution in the 2024 Times Higher Education (THE) World Rankings, a prestigious global ranking system.
The rankings, which assess the performance of universities worldwide, placed Covenant University within the 801-1000 range globally, alongside the University of Ibadan (UI).
The 2024 rankings feature 1,907 universities from 108 countries and regions.
Institutions are evaluated across five key areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry collaboration, and international outlook, using 18 performance indicators.
This year’s ranking drew from an extensive analysis, including over 134 million citations from 16.5 million research publications and feedback from 68,402 scholars.
The process included over 411,789 data points from more than 2,673 institutions globally.
While Covenant University excelled in Nigeria, the global ranking was topped by the University of Oxford for the eighth consecutive year.
Stanford University climbed to second place, while Harvard University slipped to fourth. Meanwhile, MIT advanced to third, and the University of Cambridge dropped to fifth from last year’s joint third position.
