The Edo State Police Command says 64 suspected cultists have been remanded by the court in the State.

Moses Yamu, the Command’s spokesperson, disclosed this to newsmen on Saturday in a statement made available to newsmen in Benin City.

He said the accused are among the 95 suspects arrested in the State.

Yamu said the remanded suspects are those that have been charged to court while the investigation is ongoing on the remaining suspects.

He did not, however, disclose whether the suspects were remanded in the Correctional Centre or in police custody.

He said the arrested suspects are members of the notorious Maphites, Eiye, and Aye confraternities.

The Command’s image maker said arms and ammunition such as two locally made pistols, one single barrel shotgun, and 24 live cartridges were recovered from the suspects.

He alleged that the suspects had been responsible for the cult supremacy killings in the State.

“The suspects were arrested in sustained intelligence-driven raids of their enclaves in Benin City and environs for the past week,” he added.

The State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, however, urged parents and guardians to keep a tab on the activities of their wards to curb the menace of cultism.

Agbonika also warned youths in the State to desist from joining unlawful societies that could only dim their future and ultimately claim their lives or that of other innocent persons.
