Chadian prosecutors have requested a 25-year prison sentence for former Prime Minister Succes Masra over his alleged role in deadly inter-communal violence in the country’s south in May.
Masra, leader of the Transformers Party, is charged with disseminating xenophobic messages, criminal conspiracy, and murder. He was arrested days after the clashes, which left at least 76 people dead.
In court on Thursday, prosecutors presented an audio clip they claim shows Masra urging one group to take up arms. He has denied the accusations.
Masra briefly served as prime minister in 2024 before resigning to run for president, losing to then-junta leader Mahamat Idris Deby.
