A coalition of civil society organizations has condemned the horrific abduction and brutal murder of four year old Ayman Abubakar in Sokoto, demanding immediate justice and robust child protection reforms.

In a powerful joint statement, leaders of key advocacy groups, including the National President of the Network Against Child Trafficking, Abuse and Labour (NACTAL), Abdulganiyu Abubakar; the Sokoto State Coordinator of the Child Protection Network, Usman Ahmad Suka; and the Chairman of the SGBV/Child Protection Response Team, Rabiu Bello Gandi, described the incident as “a horrific violation of the rights of the child.”

The coalition issued four urgent demands: a thorough and transparent investigation into the murder, the prompt arrest and prosecution of all individuals involved, regular public updates on the case, and an immediate overhaul and strengthening of child protection systems in Sokoto and nationwide.

They emphasized that justice must be swift, comprehensive, and visible, warning that any failure to act decisively would set a dangerous precedent for child rights in Nigeria.

“The safety and well-being of every Nigerian child must be a national priority,” the statement asserted unequivocally.

The coalition further called on the Sokoto State Government, traditional rulers, community leaders, and security agencies to coordinate efforts in ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice without delay.

Ayman’s father, Dr. Abubakar, delivered an emotional appeal to the public and authorities alike, urging unwavering support in the pursuit of justice for his son.

He recounted that Ayman went missing on March 29 after attending evening prayers, never to return home.

After over seven harrowing weeks of searching and uncertainty, the child’s lifeless body was discovered, a discovery that has ignited public fury and grief across the region.

Authorities have confirmed that several individuals have been arrested in connection with the crime, but investigations are ongoing. The identities and motives of the suspects remain under official scrutiny.

In their statement, the civil society organizations pledged to maintain pressure on the justice system, monitoring the investigation and prosecution process closely to ensure transparency and accountability.

They vowed to stand firmly with Ayman’s grieving family, offering support and solidarity in their quest for justice and closure.

“This case must not be forgotten, and justice must not be delayed,” they declared.

They also urged the public to remain vigilant and proactive in reporting suspicious activities that threaten the safety of children.

The coalition reiterated that Ayman’s case is not an isolated incident but a reflection of broader systemic failures in child protection, calling for nationwide reforms and enforcement of existing child rights laws.

“Justice for Ayman is justice for all,” they concluded, calling on every Nigerian to join in demanding justice, accountability, and a safer future for every child.
