BYD Motors Nig Ltd and Grassroots Center for Rights & Civic Orientation (GROCO) heartily congratulate the Director-General (DG) of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC), Mrs. Omotenioye Majekodunmi, on her induction as a Fellow, and conferment of an honorary Doctorate Degree by the prestigious Africa Institute of Public Administration (AIPA).

As key stakeholders partnering to provide livelihood options in the face of the economic challenges posed by climate change, BYD Nig Ltd and GRACO applaud the recognition of the NCCC DG.

It is a testament to her commitment to excellence, and impactful climate governance.

A joint statement issued on Monday by Chief Moses Ayom, the Chairman & CEO of BYD Motors Nig Ltd.,
and Armsfree Ajanaku, the Executive Director of GRACO, said their organizations celebrate this milestone, which is no doubt a reflection of the strategic and transformative leadership Mrs. Majekodunmi has brought to bear since coming on board as DG of the NCCC.

According to the statement, upon her appointment in October 2025, Mrs. Majekodunmi has provided fresh impetus; she has brought in renewed vigour in the push to ensure Nigeria achieves its climate change mitigation and adaptation agenda.

She has similarly provided a nuanced and balanced perspective in global climate conversations by reiterating Nigeria’s position as an economy dependent on oil revenues, which nonetheless must put in place a robust framework for climate action.

In the context of the discussions focusing on the just transition, the NCCC on the watch of the current DG has championed a just transition that will preserve the livelihoods, welfare and well-being of Nigerians dependent on the oil economy.

Importantly, Mrs. Majekodunmi has leveraged her core competencies as a climate finance expert to push for Nigeria’s participation in global programmes with the capacity to unleash a steady stream of climate financing.

Nigeria’s recent launch of the framework for its carbon markets and its participation in the Beyond Oil and Gas Alliance (BOGA) Fund Program are testaments to the important strides being taken to explore climate financing channels. These efforts align with core principles of climate justice.

BYD Nig Ltd and GRACO are committed to supporting these efforts through awareness raising, promotion of climate-smart livelihood opportunities, and capacity building for small and medium-sized businesses.

We align with NCCC’s efforts that as many Nigerian SMEs as possible should be encouraged to take full advantage of the opportunities and benefits in these climate finance initiatives.

It is therefore apparent that these significant strides in providing strategic direction for the NCCC align with the mission and core values of AIPA, which focuses on reshaping the practice of public administration in Africa for growth advantage.

BYD Nig Ltd and GRACO therefore felicitate with the DG on this professional achievement, as we wish her many more years of selfless and impactful service.
