BUK Promotes 90 Senior Academics to Associates, Professors

The Senate of Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has approved the promotion of 90 senior academics to the ranks of Professors and Associate Professors at its 416th meeting, held on Wednesday, August 28, 2024.

SolaceBase reports that out of the total number, 45 academics were promoted to  Professors, while another 45 were elevated to Associate Professors.

According to a statement issued by Lamara Garba, Deputy Registrar/Head of Public Affairs, Bayero University, Kano, on Monday, said the promotions span various fields, reflecting the university’s commitment to academic excellence.

Those promoted to Professors include Dr Umar Sani Fagge (Arabic Language), Dr. Ibrahim Muazzam Saminu Maibushira (Islamic Thought and Civilization), Dr Tijjani Muhammad Naniya (Social and Political History), and Dr Mukhtar Ridwanu Bunza (Forest Ecology and Silviculture).

Others promoted to the Professorial cadre are Dr Yusuf Isa Chamo (Linguistics), Dr Kasim Muhammad (Environmental Engineering), Dr Murtala M. Badamasi (Geography), Dr Salisu Maiwada Abubakar (Nutritional Biochemistry), Dr Aliyu Muhammad Madaki (Sports Management), Dr. Ahmed Makama Getso (Health Education), Dr Gali Sa’idu (Guidance and Counselling), and Dr. Abdulazeez Umar Raji (Housing Lean Construction).

In addition, five female academics have joined the rank of Professors, including Dr. Ummulkhair A. Dantata (Hausa Language), Dr. Latifa Musa Pedro (Health Economics), Aisha Muhammad Gadanya (Nutrition and Pharmacological Biochemistry), and Dr. Hauwa Musa Abdullahi (Obstetrics and Gynecology).

The list of those promoted to Associate Professors includes Dr. Lawal Muhammad Bello (Electrical Engineering), Dr. Warshu Tijjani Rabi’u (Islamic Studies & Shari’ah), Sunusi Iguda (Mass Communication), Dr. Binta Isiyaku Usman (Fisheries), and Fatimah Ismail Tsiga-Ahmed (Community Medicine), among others.

The statement added that the promotions cover the 2022 and 2023 academic sessions, recognizing the academic contributions and research outputs of the promoted scholars.
