The burial of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has been postponed to Tuesday, July 15, 2025.

This was confirmed by Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, during a press briefing in Daura, shortly after his return from the United Kingdom.

According to Governor Radda, the funeral prayer (janaza) will be held at 2:00 p.m. in Daura, Buhari’s hometown.

“The janaza prayer for our late leader, President Muhammadu Buhari, will now take place on Tuesday, July 15, at exactly 2:00 p.m. here in Daura,” the governor announced.

He said the postponement was to allow more time for dignitaries, family members, and well-wishers from across Nigeria and abroad to attend and pay their last respects.

Governor Radda described the late president as “a true patriot and statesman who served Nigeria with dignity and commitment,” adding that all necessary arrangements have been made to ensure a smooth and honorable burial.

President Buhari died over the weekend after a brief illness, triggering a wave of tributes from leaders and citizens at home and abroad.

Condolence registers have been opened by the Katsina State Government and the Buhari family in Daura, Abuja, and Nigerian foreign missions.

Meanwhile, security has been strengthened in Daura ahead of the burial, which is expected to draw a large crowd, including top government officials, diplomats, and members of the public.
