Musa Na Allah Sokoto
Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State consulted with citizens and other stakeholders on Monday as part of preparations for developing the 2025 budget.
Addressing participants at a town hall meeting held at Sultan Maccido Institute, he said the aim of citizen engagement in budget preparations is to ensure transparency and accountability.
He said that in 2025, the state government would provide a mobile Ambulance to all 244 political wards in the state and completely overhaul all Primary healthcare centers across the 23 local government areas.
The Governor also directed the upward review of salaries and allowances for all traditional rulers in the state.
He said that traditional rulers, as custodians of culture and traditions, played a vital role in the administration of their communities.
Governor Aliyu further reiterated his administration’s determination to ensure good health, quality education, and, above all, peace across the state.
“The two key sectors education and health sectors will take the leading budgetary allocation of 25 and 15 percent in the year 2025.
He however introduced a 200,000 Naira monthly allocation to principals of Secondary schools in the state with effect from January 2025, adding that the purpose of the school imprest is for principals to carry out unforeseen repairs of Brokendown facilities.
The Governor noted that his administration is very much concerned about Tsangaya education adding, that the Almajiris roaming the streets of Sokoto are not those studying in the state’s Tsangaya schools where they are fed, housed, and clothed.
“Our known Almajiris are in schools getting the needed care and studies that include both Islamic and Western education.
”Promoting Islamic affairs is second in my administration policy, hence Sokoto state is one hundred percent Muslim and we will continue to do what we can including improvement on the Tsangya education to ensure that our religion remains the best,” the Governor enthused.
While emphasizing that skill acquisition is equally crucial in his governance policy, the governor says he plans to positively engage unemployed youths, and women on skills of their choice, and ensure that they are equally certificated, given grants and tools.
”By so doing, we would be reducing idleness and bad social vices from amongst our society to a large extent.”
