At least 1,000 nomadic children across 20 local government areas of Bauchi State have benefitted from the Nomadic Vacation Courses organised to expand access to quality education for underserved communities.
The Executive Secretary of the Bauchi State Agency for Nomadic Education (BASANE), Alhaji Ahmad Abdullahi Bello, disclosed this during a sendforth ceremony at Government Girls Secondary School, Yana, in Shira Local Government Area.
Bello said the initiative focused on English and Mathematics, the foundation for careers in science, engineering, and social sciences.
He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to ensuring nomadic children enjoy equal learning opportunities as their peers in rural and urban areas.
He praised parents, traditional leaders, and local authorities for their contributions, commending especially the enthusiasm and performance of the students, with particular emphasis on girls.
Bello urged parents to support their daughters’ education, stressing its importance for national development.
Representing the Shira Local Government chairman, the Special Adviser on Students and Education, Umar Sarki Dango, pledged that the council would continue to prioritise education in line with Governor Bala Mohammed’s policies, particularly efforts to reduce the number of out-of-school children.
Similarly, Babangida Umar Isawa, financial consultant to the chairman of Giade LGA, assured that the council would increase investment in girl-child education to promote gender equality.
The chairman of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore in Shira, Alhaji Muhammadu Ore, lauded the initiative, describing it as a step towards restoring hope among nomadic communities by improving access to education and healthcare. He pledged the association’s continued support.
The Principal of Government Girls Secondary School, Yana, Malama Salina Bala, highlighted that the programme also included training on menstrual hygiene to equip girls with vital knowledge on personal health.
One of the participants, Rukayya Sale of Tudun Wada Primary School, who emerged best student, attributed her success to focus and dedication.
She encouraged her peers to embrace education, describing knowledge as the most powerful tool for personal and community development.
