Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has approved the formation of a 41-member committee to assess requests for the creation of new Emirates, Chiefdoms, and Districts across the state.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado.

According to the statement, the committee draws its membership from a wide spectrum of society, including traditional rulers, technocrats, legal practitioners, academics, civil society groups, security agencies, and religious bodies. The aim is to ensure that the review process is inclusive, balanced, and aligned with the state’s long-term goals.

The committee will be chaired by Alhaji Hamza Koshe, with Justice Habibu Idris serving as Deputy Chairman. Notable members include senior government officials, representatives from the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), and security agencies.

Prof. Ibrahim Garba, a historian from the University of Maiduguri, will also serve on the committee to provide cultural and historical insights.

The state government had earlier invited communities to submit formal requests for the creation of new traditional institutions. The committee is now tasked with evaluating these proposals based on key criteria such as equity, fairness, socio-political inclusiveness, historical relevance, and financial viability.

Gidado noted that the committee will be officially inaugurated by Governor Bala Mohammed on Thursday, July 3, at the Executive Council Chamber of the Government House in Bauchi by 10:00 a.m.

He added that the initiative is part of the government’s broader effort to strengthen traditional institutions, promote grassroots governance, and preserve Bauchi State’s rich cultural heritage.
