Bauchi Laments Proliferation of Private Schools

Editor

Bauchi State Government has lamented the proliferation and arbitrary establishment of private institutions across the state, in flagrant violation of the rules and regulations guiding such institutions.

This assertion was made on Tuesday by the State Commissioner of Education, Dr. Jamila Mohammed Dahiru, while inaugurating a Task Force Committee to clamp down on unregistered private schools in the state.

While interacting with members of the Taskforce shortly after the inauguration, she stressed that “this is one of the efforts of the state government to address the problems associated with the proliferation of unregistered private schools and the non-compliance with the state guidelines for the establishment of such schools.”

The Commissioner also stated that a town hall meeting was convened with the proprietors of such schools, their association, and other stakeholders, where decisions were made, including the establishment of the Taskforce on private schools.

Jamila Dahiru highlighted the Committee’s terms of reference, which include identifying unregistered schools in the state, conducting inspection visits to the affected schools, and delivering instant judgments through a Mobile Court.

Additionally, she mentioned that the Committee would “devise means of tracking compliance, take any other action to enhance compliance with private school guidelines in the state, and co-opt any individuals who may assist the Committee in discharging its duties.”

Speaking on behalf of the Taskforce members, Dr. Nasir Alaa, Chairman of the House Committee on Education, promised to fulfill their assigned responsibilities diligently.

He commended the State Government, through the Ministry of Education, for establishing the Taskforce, which he said was long overdue given the proliferation of private schools, even in areas unsuitable for such operations.

He assured that the Legislature is always ready to support the Executive in ensuring a conducive environment for effective service delivery in the education sector.
