The Bauchi State Government says it has raised its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) from less than N300 million at the start of the administration to over N2 billion, with a target of N3 billion by the end of 2025.

The State Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Yakubu Adamu, made this known while presenting the government’s tenure report during the Scorecard programme organised by the Ministries of Information and Communication, Budget and Multilateral Coordination, in collaboration with media organisations.

Dr. Adamu said Governor Bala Mohammed’s administration has prioritised workers’ welfare, debt servicing, and other statutory obligations, disclosing that about N11 billion is spent monthly on salaries for state and local government employees.

On industrialisation, he revealed that the government is partnering with a Chinese firm to establish a cement plant in Gwana District, Alkaleri LGA, adding that mobilisation to site has been completed and production processes have begun.

Addressing pension concerns, the commissioner announced that Governor Mohammed approved N100 million monthly for state retirees and another N100 million for local government retirees to reduce the backlog, ahead of the full rollout of the Contributory Pension Scheme. He said a special plan to clear all outstanding pensions is also underway.

Dr. Adamu further highlighted payroll reforms, noting that the administration inherited a system plagued with ghost workers and errors but has since cleaned and regularised the process.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to accountability, transparency, and sustained revenue growth.
