The Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, has said the contribution of the late Haruna Amadu Zago, popularly called Danzago, should be immortalized for generations to come to learn from his progressive contribution to politics.
Dan Zago, a staunch supporter of President Muhammadu Buhari, was appointed interim chairman of CPC in Kano before the party merged to form the APC in 2014.
He would later part ways with Buhari and join forces with Abdullahi Ganduje and Ibrahim Shekarau before aligning with Rabiu Kwankwaso in 2023. Danzago died on February 13 this year after a protracted illness.
Barau made the remark when he hosted Zago Akida, a group of political disciples of the late politicians in his residence in Abuja.
The deputy senate President said he is counting himself as a disciple of Zago Akida because of Dan Zago’s unwavering commitment to progressive politics anchored on principles, justice, and the rule of law.
“I will count myself as a disciple of Zago Akida and would continue to support the movement to Immortlise the late political Titan. Everyone was convinced of his commitment to good governance and promotion of democratic ideals,” Barau told the Zago Akida group.
The new leader of Zago Akida, Muktari Gwammaja said the group has appointed Barau as its patron following the demise of Haruna Amadu Zago in view of his standing in Kano and national politics, commanding respect among political actors irrespective of party affiliation.
He also thanked the deputy senate President for donating an office and food items as well as appointing 5 aides from the Zago Akida group.
