Barau Football Club grabbed their first win of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season after defeating Kun Khalifat FC 3-1 in Aba on Sunday.

The Matchday 6 encounter, played at the Enyimba International Stadium, saw the Maliya Boys rally back from an early setback to record a memorable away victory.

Kun Khalifat opened the scoring in the 14th minute, but Barau’s Yahya Ibrahim quickly restored parity two minutes later, latching onto a Sai’du Salisu assist.

The visitors turned the game around in the second half when midfielder Hilary Ekawu converted from a Bismark cross in the 64th minute.

Ibrahim then sealed the win with his second goal of the evening, courtesy of a fine pass from Sugau Aliyu.

The brace took Ibrahim’s tally to three goals this season.

Speaking after the match, the forward expressed joy at his performance, dedicating his goals to his parents for their prayers and support.

Barau FC’s Technical Adviser, Ladan Bosso, lauded his team’s fighting spirit despite playing away from home.

“Actually, I am so happy with the result.

“Our club proprietor, the general manager, my coaching staff, officials, and players all did well to secure this victory,” he said.

The win lifted Barau FC to 18th position on the NPFL standings with five points from five matches.

The Maliya Boys will now shift focus to their next fixture — a home clash against Warri Wolves on Sunday, October 5, at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano.
